How to Maintain Wind Turbine Components with a Penetrating Oil
How Kroil Works on Turbine Components
Kroil Original Penetrant is routinely used by utilities maintenance crews to address seized fasteners, lubricate pivot components, and prevent corrosion on turbine assemblies across wind and other rotating energy generation equipment. Kroil penetrates into tight thread interfaces, corroded joints, and other hard-to-reach locations to ease servicing.
The application approach for turbine maintenance varies depending on the component. For seized fasteners and bolted connections, Kroil should be applied and allowed to soak for at least 20 to 30 minutes before torque is applied. For pivot points and bearing housings with surface corrosion, Kroil dissolves rust buildup and prepares the surface for appropriate follow-up lubrication, per equipment specifications.
How to Use Kroil for Turbine Component Maintenance
- Follow all lockout/tagout procedures required for the turbine or mechanical system before performing any maintenance.
- Apply Kroil Original Penetrant to seized fasteners, corroded pivot points, or other affected mechanical assemblies.
- Allow 20–30 minutes minimum soak time before applying torque to fasteners or attempting mechanical movement.
- For severely corroded hardware in high-temperature zones, re-apply Kroil and extend the dwell period.
- After removal and inspection, apply appropriate torque values and follow manufacturer specifications for fastener reinstallation.
Incorporating Kroil into scheduled turbine maintenance intervals, particularly for fastener inspection and re-torquing cycles, helps prevent the escalating corrosion that turns routine service into emergency repairs.
